The Type 96 WAPC is a contemporary Japanese armored personnel carrier. The first prototypes of the car were developed in the early 1990s, and serial production started in 1996 and is still going on. It is estimated that in 2014 there were 365 Type 96 WAPC vehicles in the line. The drive is provided by a single motor Mitsubishi 6D40 with a power of 360 HP. It is armed with a single 40mm Type 96 automatic grenade launcher and one 12.7mm M2HB machine gun.
The Type 96 WAPC armored personnel carrier was developed by the Komatsu concern on behalf of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces. The vehicle can gather up to eight landing troops on board in full inventory. The vehicle's cover is provided by steel armor, which provides protection against small arms and artillery shells. Transporter Type 96 WAPC is characterized by great maneuverability and very high mobility - both on the road and off-road. The maximum speed of the vehicle is up to 100 km / h! The vehicle also has a very rich electronic equipment and a battlefield management system. Since 2017, tests have been carried out on vehicle prototypes to replace the Type 96 WAPC in the line. The only user of this type of vehicle is the Japanese Self-Defense Forces.
The Type 96 Armored Vehicle is the first full-scale armored vehicle of the Ground Self-Defense Force, which has been deployed since 1996. The kit reproduces the type with 12.7mm heavy machine gun called B type.
