Tamiya 61601 1/100 Ilyushin IL-28 Beagle
Years and years ago, Tamiya made 1/35 scale THE scale for military vehicles. They then attempted to repeat their success and make a new standard for aircraft models by releasing a series of 1/100 kits. While a very sensible idea from the standpoint of a nation that, like most of the world, uses the metric system, 1/100 scale just never caught on. However, the kits produced were actually quite good, so Tamiya has seen fit to reissue them!
The IL-28 is, while perhaps not attractive, definitely functional-looking! And this kit captures the lines well. Panel lines are recessed, the bomb bay can be opened or closed, landing gear lowered or retracted, and the tail turret guns will move. Markings are for FIVE aircraft: one each from Russia, Indonesia, Finland, Poland and China. Ball bearings are also included for nose weight.
